One year anniversary is approacing!

May will be the one year anniversary since we started going on BBQ trips. So get ready, we will be going to Cooper's in Llano!

Now to more immediate matters. Next week is the last weekend in March -- so we need to eat some BBQ. Do we finish out the Lockhart trilogy and go to Kreuz's or should we go somewhere else? Either way it will be next saturday March 26th around noon.

Slow death of BBQ?

Is this the beginning of the death of BBQ outings? Last month was pathetic, even I didn't show up. This month there has been no response in regards to the Salt Lick. To top it all off, one of our regular members, could even be called a founding member, will no longer be joining us for BBQ (has he become a vegetarian?). It is a sad day for BBQ eaters. Hopefully some brisket, sausage and ribs on Saturday will cheer me up.

BBQ eatin' will occur this saturday at Louis Mueller's in Taylor. Hopefully we will have a good turnout, but sad to say that Mr. Coté will not be joining us. He has some lame excuse about going to Houston, some of are starting to doubt wether he will ever go on a BBQ outing again.

Logistics are as follows. Meet a BMC at 10:45AM for a 11:00AM departure, if you have a big car you should bring it. Info and map for Louis Mueller at citysearch.

Coté, Matt Kinman, Laura, Chip and I went to Cooper's BBQ today. We all crammed in to Chip's BMW 528 and left BMC at about 10:25 AM--a little later than planned since Coté was late. The drive took about an hour and 45 minutes, and, by the end, we were all ready for some meat. When we pulled into Cooper's the parking lot was filled with smoke. No, the building was not on fire; it was beautiful fragrant smoke from the outdoor pits. The parking lot was already full with motorcycles and cars, so we ended up parking on a side street. As we waited in line, we were as excited and giddy as kids in a candy store. No one could decide what to get; it all looked and smelled delicious. So, we decided to get a little bit of everything. Kinman and I were chosen to order from the pit. We ordered a little bit of brisket, sausage, a pork chop, pork ribs, beef ribs, and a slice of ham--a little bit ended up being 8.09 pounds of meat! There was a man behind us who said we would never eat all that meat. Little did he know, we had Chip and Coté on our side.

We also got some sides, but that's not the money food and really not important.

The eating arrangements inside were a friendly affair with picnic tables lined up. We picked a spot, plopped down our tray o' meat, and began eating. Everything went smoothly except for a couple of times when Chip and Coté almost came to blows over some bits of meat. No injuries occurred and everyone still had all their fingers attached. When the bones were picked clean and the meat eating had started to slow down, we decided to get some cobbler--peach and blackberry--to wash it down. Chip, who said he was not a fan of cobbler, ended up having quite a bit of the peach cobbler with the "crunchies."

Chip, full with his share of meat and cobbler and hung over from the night before, decided he didn't want to drive back to Austin. So, I had the honor of driving us back to BMC. We took Hwy 29 through Burnet, Bertram, and Liberty Hill to Hwy 183 and eventually ended up at BMC. On the way back, we reminisced about our lunch and the Vietnam Vets who had sat next to us, sharing their stories about hunting trips, agent orange, cancer, and chemotherapy.

All in all, it was a successful trip. Now the planning for the next trip begins. Hopefully we will have some pictures of this trip up pretty soon.

May 8th is Mother's day weekend, so if there are going to be any conflicts you need to speak up. If need be we can move up the date to May 1st (Chip be damned) because I don't think I can wait much longer than 2 weeks for the delicacy that is BBQ.

First outing

I didn't get a chance to compile a list of BBQ places last night, but I'm going to go ahead and suggest the first place and time. Chip can't do May 1st, so how about May 8th. I was thinking Cooper's in LLano would be a good first BBQ treat.

For now our group is small enough that we can pick the BBQ date to accommodate schedules. If the groups gets bigger we will have to move to a "first Saturday of the month" type of thing.

We should try to pick one Saturday a month to go out and eat BBQ. I can compile a list of potential BBQ joints and we can pick a few and set up a schedule for the next few months. I'll try and post some BBQ places tonight along with locations, if any one has any ideas feel free to add them. We also have to decide if these should be manly outings or will S.O.'s and kids be welcome. I am open to either.
